2011 Recap: Work

It's never too late to wish everyone A Very Happy 2012 right? well at least better late than never.. That’s what I’ve been told.

Since we had consecutive long weekends, I believe that most people took a looooong (notice the long ‘o’s?) break from work and definitely the new year celebration varies with one another..Owh how much I wish that I could never be bothered with applying leave.

Good riddance, we finally could move on from 2011 to 2012. For certain people every day is a new day. However it’s not the case for me. Frankly I’m kind of looking forward to jump into another year although I’ll never know what awaits me for another 365 days (366 days in 2012).

Overall I’d say 2011 gave me quite an impact in my life. Sweet and memorable things happened as well as shits that happened. Nevertheless, wise man says that things that were hard to bear are sweet to remember. So I guess shits could be sweet as well. Depends on your taste bud.

Just a little recap of what happened in my life as a working professional in 2011. Apparently 2011 didn’t start off well for me. Since I was serving the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in particular the Consular Division, so every disaster that happens in the world is a disaster for me. It started with earthquake near japan and later the one in USA. Nothing serious at that time but yeah we were put on alarmed.

However things get interesting when it turned from a natural disaster to political crisis. From Tunisia to Egypt then without being given a time to breath we were alarmed with an earthquake in New Zealand and later one of the major disaster was the major earthquake in Japan which has spawned a ferocious tsunami.

All this disaster happened between January – March and I was basically on-call 24/7. I barely had my long weekend during last Chinese New Year. WTF for a start of a New Year right? My first 3 months of 2011 were full with disasters all over the world.

Out of the disaster, due to all of the hard work, titik peluh dan air mata (too dramatic eh?) I rewarded myself with an expensive watch. I called it my ‘Crisis Watch lol..but what the heck..i lost count on how many times I spend on duty at the operation room from 6pm-9am (mostly I went out at 10am). So I vehemently believed that I of all people deserved an expensive watch.

Things got on interesting turn in June. I was part of the Accommodation Committee for Langkawi International Dialogue representing my Division. I was tasked to handle the accommodation for the Secretariat in Pullman Putrajaya. It was not easy tasked though because the number of secretariat was huuuuuge and I have to settle the issue of rooms under booking with the hotel. I was practically alone there because my committee members were segregated to various hotel and I was in Pullman all by myself handling hundreds of secretariat while my colleague handled 10 delegates at most?

However credits should be given to them since they did give me assistance on the issue but mostly it was left to me and Miss Alia, the sales rep. Nasib kau cun. I spent 11 to 14 days in Pullman. Apart from the stresses of the work I can consider the long stay as a paid break from the office. Yeah, I kind of enjoyed my time there although it was not an easy task. Cantik kan hotel ni?

The most significant turn in my life happened on the day when I supposed to check out from the hotel. Yeaaaaay I got a transfer order. Alhamdulillah after waiting for 7 months I finally got the chance to move out from Wisma Putra. Good riddance!! Well just say that I was not born to do diplomatic service. You might enjoyed it but not me. So moving on..

Overall I am very happy with where I am right. Im supposed to be happy so I have to be happy with my work. I cant demand for a stress free environment of Mr-Know-It-All kind of work so yeah I have to make do with what I have.

My new year resolution for 2012 in terms of work would be as following;

  • To stick with the current workplace for the whole year (I’ve been jumping places since 2009).

  • To learn and master my portfolios

  • Come to work regularly (lol who wouldn’t?)

Oh Tuhan permudahkanlah jalan hamba-Mu ini..may this year be more interesting than last year

    Investment O Investment

When I started working back then in 2009 as a chambee, there were nothing much that I could do with the money. The allowance that I received through out the 9 months period was minimal amounting to RM1,200/month only. It merely enough to cover my expenses and cost getting back and forth from Shah Alam - Bukit Bintang. If I thoroughly digged my account deep enough, maybe and just maybe I could find a hundred or two to get myself something fancy which rarely happened.

After I completed my pupilage I was offered to hold a post as an officer in SUHAKAM where I earned the basic officer's salary. Wah masa tu excited gila tengok duit ribu-ribu masuk akaun. Terharu pon ade. Its not easy surviving with minimum allowance when u were a student as well as pupil in chambers. It took me 3 months before the idea of investing (minimally mind u) crossed my mind.

    As a fresh grad(not so fresh but i wasnt the rotten one), I have listed the following basic investment;

    • Unit trust

    • ASB

    • Insurance

    • Gold Investment Passbook

At that point of time I wasnt sure whether or not im being realistic. Yeah i spent my money like nobody's business..its mine anyway so sedar-sedar akaun dah kosong. I have to bare in my mind that with a limited earnings, i have to be careful with what i buy as well as how much i invested. An investment could be a liability for example your insurance policy where you are practically commit yourself with the monthly payment but of course its a different kind of commitment if u compared with your car mothly commitment.

After 3 months of working, i managed to invest on public mutual but im yet to see the outcome on this. Then, yada yada yada after 6 months I applied for ASB loan followed by insurance policy 5 months later.

While I was googling, I came to know about Shares by Bank Rakyat. It seems like a good one based on its track record of awarding 12-15% dividend to their members. Unfortunately membership is limited and when i called Bank Rakyat at that time to enquire, I was informed that "application masih belum dibuka encik (wah seksi suara kau)". I have to wait until they opened up membership to apply for the shares. Ruginye tak tau daripada zaman kecik2 dulu

Then in March 2011, Bank Rakyat opened up new applications for those who are interested to join. Wah apa lagi berlari la pegi Bank Rakyat Putrajaya but the maximum amount that i could purchased was RM500 only. I was advised by the Bank to fill up Borang Q for additional purchased. Maybe akak tu terkesima dgn wajah cute ini bila tengok aku kecewa di kaunter sebab tak dapat beli banyak

I didnt received any news on my application to purchase additional shares afterwards but tup tup yesterday I received a cheapskate piece of paper from Bank Rakyat. Ingatkan

“alamak kredit kad aku due lagi la nie”.

However I was eric-leong-kind-of surprise when I saw the title of the ‘letter’. Apparently Bank Rakyat offered me additional shares to be purchased seperti gambar pertama di atas. With that letter I quickly rushed to the nearest branch and proudly purchased another round of their shares. Thank god because I recently received another half month bonus from the government. Although the bonus was neither handsome nor gorgeous but at least I can fully utilized the money to maximize my investment with Bank Rakyat.

Another interesting point to note is that I was advised again by the bank to fill in another application for additional shares. According to the lady at the counter, Bank Rakyat is still accepting new application as well as application for additional shares for existing members. Hmm..tak tau la bile boleh beli lagi..

For those out there who are interested with the shares but has yet to purchased, I highly recommend u guys to grab this opportunity. Biarlah sikit-sikit lama-lama jadi bukit. Maybe tak dapat puluh ribu but a hundred or two for a dividend is a good start. It’s not wrong to earn while saving with the bank. At the end of the day kite jugak yang untung. So tepuk dada tanya selera.

Berangan lah masing2 jadi vip hari tu ala2 KPPA muda.

I enjoyed the drive (kereta pinjam yg sgt selesa), definitely enjoyed the time spent although we couldnt spend extra time hanging out but a short catched up was enough. Great company + great foods and nothing went wrong through out the trip as well as the event..kepada Lan dan Pasangan, selamat menempuhi kemanisan dan asam garam alam rumah tangga (wah mcm la aku ni dah jadi laki orang)

P/s: kualiti gambar agak sekadar di pinggiran

The New 2012 RM 50 Note

Introducing the new RM 50 note - well at least the acclaimed new RM50 bank note.

I havent read any official statement from Bank Negara thus this might be a hoax but these image has been circulated via facebook n various blogs recently.

It was claimed that the Bank Negara Malaysia in co-operation with Sukom Ninety Eight Berhad has issued a new RM50 note to commemorate the Kuala Lumpur '98 XVI Commonwealth Game.

As you could see from the picture, the design of the note will remind the world of Malaysia as a world class sporting destination. The front side features the portrait of the first Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the right and the Kuala Lumpur city skyline with prominent landmarks in the centre.

The Kuala Lumpur International Airport is featured as the central backdrop. To the right, the background design shows the artist's impression of the Multimedia Super Corridor connecting Kuala Lumpur City Centre to Putrajaya, Cyberjaya and the new Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The back design shows the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil in the centre. The logo of the Kuala Lumpur '98 XVI Commonwealth Games appears on the left of the note.

I stressed it again that i have yet to read any official statement or news on the matter. It could be a hoax so lets wait until the official announcement is made by Bank Negara y'awls
